Team CJ XKSS

The exclusive Team CJ Jaguar XKSS is an exacting, alloy-bodied replica of the legendary Jaguar XKSS sports cars built at the Jaguar factory in 1957. Following Jaguar’s withdrawal from endurance racing at the end of the 1956 season, some 25 partially built D Type chassis remained unsold and were therefore surplus to requirements. The ever-resourceful Sir William Lyons decided to modify the leftover D Types for road use, adding a proper windscreen, a convertible top and even chrome bumpers. In essence, by converting the fearsome D Type racers into road cars, Lyons had created the world’s first Super Car.

Only sixteen XKSS road cars were completed before a devastating fire ravaged the Browns Lane factory in February, 1957, effectively ending production. Most of the cars were sold to the US market, with one famously owned by the ‘king of cool’ himself, Steve McQueen. It is the McQueen car that is the inspiration for the Team CJ XKSS.

The legendary Steve McQueen Jaguar XKSS – Inspiration for the Team CJ XKSS

Our alloy-bodied replica of the McQueen car is dimensionally identical to the original, although there are several differences beneath the skin. The Team CJ XKSS has been designed to run on E Type running gear, complete with fully independent rear suspension and a Stage Two 4.7L engine developing 390HP and 445 ft/lbs of torque. Weighing in at less than 2,000 lb, the Team CJ XKSS has a power to weight ratio that guarantees staggering performance.

The cost of a Team CJ XKSS is $625,000, which includes the titled identity of an appropriate Jaguar donor car. Each car will take approximately 36 months to complete from commencement of the build process.
