We are delighted to offer this iconic 1986 Ferrari Testarossa for sale for the first time since it was sold new. Recently acquired from the estate of its one and only owner, chassis # 63539 is one of approximately 400 “Monospecchio” Testarossas supplied to the US market. The Monospecchio cars are known for their single, high mounted “flying mirror” on the driver’s A pillar, as well as their “monodado” center lock wheels.
This spectacular example was ordered in Rosso Corsa over tan Connolly hides by Mr. Andrew Nielsen of San Francisco, California. Throughout his enthusiastic ownership and use of the car, Mr. Nielsen kept copious notes and all service records. In fact the documentation included in the sale starts at a point before the car was delivered, with correspondence between the factory and Mr. Nielsen dated September 1985. In that letter, the Ferrari factory representative Emilio Goldoni thanked Mr. Nielsen for placing his Testarossa order, and invited him for a personal tour of the factory. The file that accompanies the car even includes the cancelled check used to purchase the car!
Mr. Nielsen continued to use and enjoy his Ferrari until it was laid up in dry storage following a failed smog test in 2005. At that point he had driven the car 22,167 miles. Fast forward to 2024, when we acquired the car following Mr. Nielsen’s passing. We then recommissioned 63539 and carried out an extremely thorough engine out service at a cost of more than $30,000. That service was completed in November 2024, and the car is now running and driving perfectly. Everything now works exactly as it did when Mr. Nielsen took delivery on June 20, 1986. The odometer now reads 22,268 miles, 101 additional miles since Mr. Nielsen stopped driving his beloved Ferrari in 2005.
