Team CJ is honored to offer this magnificent 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL roadster, chassis 7500176, presented as delivered in DB 180 Silver Grey Metallic over its completely original 979 Blue Roser leather, with original blue carpets and black soft top.
Delivered new to the United States on September 11, 1957, the car retains its numbers-matching chassis, engine, body and transmission, with all original tags in place including the body tag, firewall data plate, chassis frame tag and engine tag. Documentation includes its Mercedes Benz Zertifikat, a copy of the factory data card, along with books, tools and jack.
This incredibly original 300SL has had four private owners from new, remaining in California for the first six decades of its life! The first owner, John Ebell of Woodland, California, purchased the car new from The Electric Garage Company, a Studebaker dealer, and owned it until 1972, when it was sold to the second owners, Desmond and Elaine Bonnington, for the princely sum of $4,800! The Bonningtons owned and cherished the car until 2021, participating in numerous rallies and driving events over their half century of ownership. Following the Bonningtons, the car was purchased and enjoyed for four years by Clay Huber, a friend and client of Team CJ, before being sold to the fourth and most recent private owner, Adam Levine of the famed rock group Maroon 5.
This spectacular 300SL has never been apart since it left the Mercedes-Benz factory. I has been repainted once in its life, a high quality, bare metal repaint in 1998 in its original DB 180 Silver Grey Metallic. The paint still shows exceptionally well to the current day. As previously mentioned, the interior is entirely original and is easily the best original 300SL interior we have ever seen. The leather has a wonderful patina, and the entire cabin trim is in truly remarkable condition for its age.
Meticulously maintained for many years by marque specialists Scott Grundfor & Company, this remarkably original 300SL roadster now shows 80,014 miles. Freshly serviced in the Team CJ Workshop, this magnificent 300SL drives as well as any 300SL that we have had through our hands. Eligible for just about every historical motoring show or event in the world, freshly serviced, our 300SL needs nothing but its next keeper to guide it through another seven decades of glorious service.
